Regarding the abrupt ending... you really need to see how the guitar and percussion play into the guitar and percussion at the beginning of the next song on the album (Jambi). When listened to in succession, they really don't fully lose the momentum they build at the end of Vicarious, and it doesn't feel like as abrupt of an ending while listening to the album. They'll sometimes have one song almost flow into the next song -- I think the most pronounced example of this would be from "Intermission" to "Jimmy" on the Ænima album. Glad to see you're enjoying the complexity of TOOL and Maynard. You should go see them in concert!

It sounds like after that high A at the end he drops to the major third. I hadn't noticed that before. I'd have to listen again but I'm thinking that's the only time they use F# in the song.

My take on it was he was telling himself if you love me, let me go as in let him die. That's why you see him as her at the end

It's funny when a non-screaming singer hears this and laughs out of love, but then when tries to do it, it sounds like just funny and cute. The guttural voice is also a technique because the vocalist who can change from this to a clean, non-nasal voice knows that if you use your throat to do it you will hurt yourself anf end up in the hospital with some vocal problem, so they must place the voice from the chest with a center mix voice. It's so awesome, this reaction to seeing an opera singer ineffectively trying to replicate this voice that we can all hear is not a piece of cake and we all learning to admire other people's talents. The Scream is so long because it's full of Delay. It's amazing how many comments are here and no one acknowledges the fact that although Maynard is an amazing singer this Scream has a lot of Delay effect that makes it being much longer that what was sang by Maynard. The use of Delay on screams it's used on most of Tool discography

landed on your channel after hearing jinjer for the 1st time. the effect you are referencing around the 13 min mark is reverse reverberation. the first i remember of it was in the 80's when it was featured in one of the nightmare on elm street sequels. the gsp-21 guitar pre-amp i had in the early 90's included that effect anongst the others (chorus, flange, delay, etc). appreciate your content. you may find the work geoff tate did with queensryche stimulating and interesting. i doubt i would be the first to recommend him. regards.
